Quick Update: Salmonella Typhimurium Outbreak Associated with Dried Coconut

  • As of March 2018: 13 cases of Salmonella Typhimurium among 8 states, WGS confirmed as outbreak strain

  • No death, no antibiotic resistance so far (per NARMS)

  • Ill persons reported consumption of dried coconut product purchased from Natural Grocers stores

  • Outbreak strain was also identified in leftover dried coconut from one of the patient's home

  • FDA also collected dried coconut from International Harvest, Inc. and found outbreak strain in samples of International Harvest Brand Organic Go Smile! Dried Coconut Raw and Go Smiles Dried Coconut Raw
