Quick Update: Hepatitis C Associated with Outpatient Clinic in Los Angeles

  • Six cases of HCV infection in patients that received infusions, injections, or procedures at Westside Multispecialty Medical Group between January 2016 - December 2018

  • As of now (2/21/19) there has been no acute hepatitis B or HIV infections among patients who received care this clinic

  • Patients have been notified

  • What providers should do

  • Call LAC DPH within 24 hours at 213-288-8787 to report the patient

  • Refer the patient to free bloodborne pathogen testing by LAC DPH (see information below) or conduct testing through your usual clinical laboratory

  • Note: LAC DPH is unable to pay for testing costs unless the patient is tested at the LAC DPH clinic

  • If the patient requests testing at your site, please order the following tests and fax the results (positive AND negative) to the LAC DPH-Acute Communicable Disease Control at 213-482-4856:

  • Hepatitis B surface antigen (HBsAg)

  • Hepatitis B surface antibody (anti-HBs)

  • Hepatitis B total core antibody (total anti-HBC)

  • Hepatitis C antibody with reflex to quantitative PCR

  • HIV-1/2 antigen and antibodies, fourth generation
